We received the new population numbers this week for the county and city for July 1, 2006.  The provisional total for the entire county is 39,968 people which is an increase of 1,086 over 2005.  The city grew by 586 from 18,829 in 2005 to 19,415 in 2006.  The unincorporated area of the county grew by 500 from 20,053 to 20,553.

Why is television going from current tv broadcast technology to digital?

   Digital television provides a clearer picture and more programming but also does it more efficiently, using less of the airwaves.  Digital broadcasting will free up some of the nation's airwaves for firefighters and police to better communicate during emergencies and will allow consumers access to next-generation wireless service.
